Description

Volunteers are often unable to respond to situations in an appropriate manner or to adequately solve occasional conflicts. Therefore, it is important for a volunteer work to be carried out effectively and benefit both the client and the volunteers themselves. The goal of the project is to support citizen involvement through educating volunteers at school, to motivate them to participate in public life through work with children and youth. As a result of the project, volunteers will get involved in work with children, youth, and public at local level and new mechanisms of communication will be established with the organisations.

Summary of project results

It often happens in the course of volunteer work that individual activities are prepared without an active participation of the volunteers themselves, which means they are not allowed to present their skills and further develop them. In addition, it may cause that their ideas are not implemented, resulting in increased passivity, loss of motivation, and in some cases termination of volunteer work. Volunteers often experience moments when they do not know how to respond to situations properly, what level of support to provide, how to set the limits, how to solve occasional conflicts, etc. Involvement in volunteer activities in order to benefit other people requires a sufficient amount of up-to-date information, so that the volunteer work is carried out effectively and it benefits not only the client but also the volunteer him/herself. The project outcomes are sustainable due to methodologies developed and volunteers trained, followed by training of new young people and supervising them toward active citizen participation. The objective of the project was to support citizen involvement, educate volunteers in the school of volunteers, and motivate them to participate in public life through working with children and youth. The objective was fully met. The outcome of the project was defined as: a systematic volunteer work with children and youth involved in the project, who become motivated to get involved in long-term active participation in public life. The outcome was fully met. Main outputs: 6,215 volunteers involved in direct participation; 76 trained volunteers; 40 participating towns and villages; and 12 new communities. Beneficiaries were involved mainly in training in The School of Volunteers and in acquiring practical volunteer experience in the course of project events implementation.
