Description

As stereotypes in values have remained in Slovakia from totalitarian times and are visible in majority of young people, it is essential for young people willing to work as volunteers to be motivated. The goal of the project is to develop the volunteer potential of young people from the region of Nitra, to monitor it and increase the level of their citizen participation. Project, will help young people to get involved in activities of public participation and new communities will get used to handle the needs and problems of children and young people at local level. Moreover, a strategic plan for a further cooperation of young volunteers in the region will be created.

Summary of project results

Stereotypes in pursuing values which are remnants of totalitarian times in Slovakia are visible in the majority of young people. Therefore, it is important that a space exists where young people, who are willing to work as volunteers, can be identified and motivated. A space where they would have a chance to get involved in long-term building of their positive attitude to such values as volunteerism and philanthropy. It is also essential that these people are regularly attended and offered both long-term informal education in various fields and space for building their personal contacts and for cooperating within their networks. The project outcomes will be maintained through organizing informal education about citizen participation as well as via including other regional NGOs in the network. The objective of the project was to develop the volunteering potential in young people from Nitra region and to increase their citizen participation. The objective was fully met. Mapping of the situation helped to identify not only the education needs of volunteers but also the existence of informal groups of activists in the region. The outcome of the project was defined as: developed volunteering potential in young people from Nitra region, who become increasingly involved in the life of their new communities. The outcome was fully met. Main outputs: 358 children and young people involved in public participation and 29 new communities involved in solving problems and needs of children and youth. Beneficiaries were involved mainly in training courses about citizen participation, creation of “Dobromapa” and organisation of events for wide public.
