Description

The project will focus on rainwater harvesting, recycling and reuse. It will involve children, parents, local communities and the general public. The objective of the project is to increas public environmental awareness in adaptation to climate change issues. Through the project implementation, the volume of rainwater that is reused will be achieved and the knowledge among children about climate change adaptation measures will be raised. The curricula focused on management of rainwater and climatic changes will be modified for the school education programme. Educational activities focused on environment will also be organised. Children, students and civil services are expected to benefit from the project implementation. The partner, the Falco group st. Bavon, will work to increase public publicity and spread information about the program.

Summary of project results

The project should serve as a tool that educates the rational use of water as a precaution in the fight against climate change. Adaptation measures have been implemented through project and represent an example of the economic use of rainwater in the area, while also highlighting the problems of flood risk by directing rainwater into a public sewer. The aim of the project was fulfilled 100% due to the fact that we managed to complete all the planned adaptation measures on time. Information activities have been implemented to spread the idea of the project. The target group, which actively participated in the project, has developed methodical material with worksheets that will be helpful in finding out the relevant field. The project succeeded in implementing all main activities, namely: 1. Six adaptation measures: An outdoor green wall, two ponds, herb gardens with irrigation systems, diversion of rainwater from the roof into the ponds, planting trees with a minimum diameter of. 18 cm and a wetland garden as an additional adaptation. 2. Produce and print instructional materials with worksheets focusing on a particular issue, with materials beginning to be actively used within the 2016/2017 school year. 3. Awareness-raising activities - information days on "Adapation to climate change" with relevance to the adaptations built within the campus. The final output of the project took the audience and involves the wider community and tourists. As well as the adaptation measures are attractive because of their visual value. In the spot it is better and easier to learn more about the objectives and ideas of the project, ensuring awareness of the project in the future. Target groups, in a direct contact with the adaptation measures, can monitor the application of theory in practice and increasing interest in approaching the topic in the form of experience.
