Description

The main challenge of Somaco's AAC factory is that we have to ensure a high level of the product quality by using outdated equipment. Moreover, having the smallest capacity in the country, we have to be more efficient than our competitors to compensate the higher costs. This project would allow us to decrease the energy consumption by 30% (the highest cost we have after the material cost). Our project aim is to increase the competitiveness of our AAC enterprise in Adjud, mainly by greening the existing production processes, therefore contributing to the objective of the programme area Green Industry Innovation, i.e. increased competitiveness of green enterprises, greening of existing industries, green innovation and green entrepreneurship, as well as to the programme specific outcome: realisation of business opportunities of greening the European economy. Our project will reach its planned aim via the following 3 specific objectives: 1. Reducing the current energy consumption (especially gas) in our Adjud unit with min. 30%. 2. Decreasing the waste percentage with 50% of the current level, representing a max. of 2% of the total production, within our Adjud unit. 3. Developing our company social impact in community.

Summary of project results

Before the project, the main challenge at Somaco Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Factory in Adjud was to ensure a high level of product quality while using outdated equipment. After modernization, the gas consumption decreased with more than 35% and the AAC waste was reduced from 4% to 2% of the total production, while the electrical energy consumption also decreased by 2%. The main benefits of the project: reduction of pollution by lowering the energy consumption and waste generation, and creation of a better working environment. Visibility and publicity was achieved via internal and media channels. Internally, Norway was promoted among the employees and their families (contest for children – handmade objects made of recycled materials “Takk Norge”), Christmas party – Norwegian theme, information about the project and about Norway in the internal magazine. In addition, within a CSR campaign, 2.500 trees were planted on the terrain surrounding the factory.
