Description

The project objective is increasing company efficiency through improved green services by investment (acquisition) in a front wheel loader used for loading collected wood residues resulting from logging and wood processing activities. The firm`s main business partners are: 1. biomass thermic energy producers, which use biomass for producing thermic energy which is then used to heat different firms, institutions (local school and kindergartens as well as the Toplita City Hall) or households in the region 2. Firms using wood residues as raw material for their production processes. The implementation of the project contributes to the sustainable development of the area by 1. collecting wood residues and turning them into a renewable energy source: biomass and thus lowering the negative environmental impact of forest exploitation. 2. sustaining current employment by employing local human resources in the process of wood residues collection and as a direct consequence of increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the firm; 3. contributing to the economic development of the region through the higher taxes paid by the firm as a consequence of increased efficiency and profitability resulting from the implementation of this project.

Summary of project results

In Romania, more and more interest has been given in recent years to obtaining cheap renewable energy in order to sustainably support economic activity and not only. Such an energy source has been identified in wood biomass obtained from processing wood residues resulting from logging activities. The project objective was increasing company efficiency through improved green services. The project’s objective was achieved by the acquisition of a wood waste front wheel loader and of a wood residues forwarder.Due to the increased wood waste loading and collection capacity, the company has increased the processing efficiency and now is able to collect and process wood residues from a much larger area than previously, thus contributing to better waste management. One wood waste front wheel loader and one wood residues forwarder have been purchased, leading to the quantity of wood waste cube meters loaded per hour of 400 and the loading capacity per transport unit of 12 tones. The project’s outcome falls under the Programme’s outcome indicator: Realisation of business opportunities of greening the European economy, through the following indicators: 1. Improved green services- the service provided is green as collecting the wood residues leads to diminishing the quantity of wood waste. The service is improved: four fold increased loading capacity (baseline 100 tones wood waste cube meters loaded per hour, target planned and achieved 400 tones wood waste cube meters loaded per hour) and increased loading capacity per transport unit (baseline 9 tones, target planned and achieved 12 tones) 2. Eco-initiatives related to material efficiency and improved waste management: both the front wheel loader and the forwarder allow for increased wood waste collection while ensuring operational safety (baseline 0, target planned and achieved 1).
