Description

The general project objective is to significantly improve the operational and environmental performance of the finishing activity of chair curved plywood components, by reducing the specific unit consumptions. This objective will be achieved by integrating state-of-the art technology into the current process flow and replacing the existing obsolete specific machines. . Following this upgrade, significant cost savings will be achieved due to the consumption savings in raw material for finishing, energy, waste material & waste disposal and maintenance. The expected outcomes of the project are defined as the likely short-term and medium-term effects of the project. In this specific investment project, the general outcome is the “Realisation of business opportunities of greening the European economy”, with the following general programme outcome indicators. Summary of project results

The need of the project came from the company’s development strategy. The implementation of the investment project generated a positive impact for the company, from a both internal operational perspective and a market-oriented perspective. From an operational point of view, the investment (technology including the design by the Norwegian partner) generated significant cost/ consumption savings, while improved the quality of the product. The investment lead to superior performance of the curved plywood components production flow. The main activities financed by this project: the integration of the new CNC – computer numerical control machine - a computer numerical control machine, able to cut the curved plywood in different shape according the customer design, by means milling tools, and a spraying robot- an spraying system able to teach the item’s shapes and spray automatically in 3D trajectory, together with the its components. By integrating the state-of-the art technology into the process flow and replacing the old obsolete specific machines was significantly improved the operational and environmental performance of the finishing activity of chair curved plywood components. This performance was integrated by reducing the specific unit consumptions.

Summary of bilateral results

As an experienced supplier of premium quality furniture products, VARIER provided the technical leadership for the design of the technical solution and process flow, as well as the professional training to the company staff for the optimal use of the new technology. Implementing a partnership project helped both Sortilemn and Varier. This strengthened the communication process due to the need of changing opinions and also due to a combination of a wider pool of skills and knowledge of both partners. Sortilemn considered a balanced partnership which combined the skills and knowledge of the partner and all employees and to create a great potential for achievement of the project.
