Description

The project targets implementation of greener design services with consequences for building material efficiency. The investment will consist in highly specialized structural engineering software that can perform complex computations, enabling the promoter to explore and choose structural design solutions. By such exploration, and given the fact that 40 to 50% of materials in a building concern its structure, it will be chosen the most economically-advantageous design option, thus saving on building materials and greening the building under consideration. As such, the area of innovation will be at company level (replacing classical, one-option, paper-based/general-purpose software worksheet design with specialized software that performs integrated analysis design of building systems), but with consequences at industry level (economizing on materials such as concrete and steel following software-enabled design choice). With the use of software in our company, we aim at a 15% improvement in material efficiency at client level (translated into reductions of the carbon footprint in the range of 360 to eCO2 for reinforced concrete and 310 to for steel).

Summary of project results

The company DI&A Design, Consulting planned to improve its services, by offering structural design solutions in construction field.The design solutions have been developed with the specialized software purchased in the project with the aim to increase the efficiency of buildings built by the company clients. The acquisition of software and the training of staff represented the main activities of the project. 22 software licenses have been purchased and 6 persons have been trained to utilize the software. Specialized structural engineering software allowed the company to make complex computations and enabled them to explore and choose structural design solutions which helped the company clients to register savings in terms of building materials. This way, the project improved the company design capacity and the quality of the services provided to clients.
