The project objective is increasing the company's efficiency through improved green services, by acquisition of a mobile biomass processor. Due to the biomass processor capacity and mobility, the company will increase the processing efficiency and will be able to collect and process wood residues from a much larger area than at the moment, thus contributing to better waste management. By collecting wood residues and turning them into a renewable energy source-biomass, we are lowering the negative environmental impact of forest exploitation. As the raw material used currently has no other use, being left abandoned in the woods following forest exploitation activities, by collecting and processing it we will be providing a cheap sustainable thermic energy source for the firms, institutions and households in the area.
Summary of project results
In Romania, more and more interest has been given in recent years to obtaining cheap renewable energy in order to sustainable support economic activity and not only. Such an energy source has been identified in wood biomass obtained from processing wood residues resulting from logging activities. The project objective was increasing company efficiency through improved green services. The project’s objective was achieved by the acquisition of a mobile biomass processor.The purchased equipment has helped significantly increase the efficiency of the wood waste processing activity, thus contributing to better waste management. Wood waste processing improved due to the project implementation. One mobile biomass processing unit has been purchased, leading to 15000 wood waste tones processed annually. The project’s outcome falls under the Programme’s outcome indicator Realisation of business opportunities of greening the European economy, through the following indicators: 1. Improved green services- the service provided is green as collecting wood residues contribute to diminishing the quantity of wood waste, some of which is left abandoned in the forests as a consequence of logging activities. The service is an improved one as the mobile biomass processor allows for collecting wood waste from otherwise inaccessible areas, while at the same time allowing to process large chunks of wood waste which otherwise remain unused. (baseline 0, target planned and achieved 1) 2. Eco-initiatives related to material efficiency and improved waste management: the project implementation allowed for better waste management as a consequence of the mobile biomass processor’s ability to process wood residues at the collection point. With the help of the mobile biomass processor the number of steps taken in order to process wood waste has been reduced by half (baseline 0, target planned and achieved 1).
