Description

The project aims to support green crafts business opportunities in the development of green products, re-use of waste and use of renewable energy. The objectives are to develop a supporting structure for the local entrepreneurs in Comana, in the area of crafts and to provide effective support and assistance to the launch and development of at least 7 crafts businesses (carpentry and joinery, reeds processing, blacksmithing, pottery, weaving and embroidery, traditional grinding mill and bakery, traditional food, products and medicinal herbs). New jobs will be created and a place for future development will be provided by establishing an incubator which can be used by successive groups of entrepreneurs in crafts. The local population will be offered the chance to use the facilities provided by the association in order to launch new economic activities, in accordance to the constantly growing potential of the economic area and to the significant and growing market in Bucharest, located only 35 km away from Comana.

Summary of project results

Comana is part of the Giurgiu county, which is among the less developed areas in Romania, and, in the same time, is part of the Comana Natural Park, a Nature 2000 and Ramsar protected area. The project aim was to support green crafts business opportunities as regards developing green products, re-use of waste and use of renewable energy, in traditional crafts specific to the area. Through the project, the Project promoter developed and implemented eco-innovative business development by supporting the launch and development of green products and services (vocational training and production spaces and equipment to obtain in an ecological way a traditional products, based on use of traditional materials, including waste, in an effective and sustainable manner). The project proposed an innovative local solution in the area of Comana, offering locally adapted alternative to the local problems, contributing to new green products and provision of new services in the area, and creating green jobs. A supporting structure (incubator) was established for the craft-related small businesses in Comana, with a piece of land being purchased according to the project specific needs, 7 workshops built and 7 sets of equipment purchased according to the specifics of each handicraft and 4 supporting services developed and provided for the small businesses – accounting, legal, health & safety, and communication & PR. 7 Green handicraft-related small business created, functioning according to a standard ensuring the full respect of environment protection legislation and principles The people of the community benefited of the opportunity to be trained and assisted in launching and developing their business in accordance to the strict rules applicable to the Comana status of natural protected area. 10 new jobs were created and a place for future development is provided by the establishment of the support structure that is to be used by successive groups of entrepreneurs interested in such economic activities.
