Description

One investment component and one R&D component. The Promoter and the partner will collaborate on research, development, design, testing, qualification and pre-production of some new innovative water cleaning products/systems (filters). The Promoter will extend its products' portfolio, as a result of the R&D activities. The items are planned to be produced and assembled, at a later stage, by the Promoter. In parallel with the research, Microelectronica S.A. will implement necessary investing in greening of their old existing production facility: - Refurbishment of old factory to become more environmental friendly (less waste, less emission); -Install LED light sources in the whole factory to reduce electric energy consumption; -Install photovoltaic solar panels in factory to generate electrical power. The R&D part will look into different areas of possible application: Fresh drinking water customers, countries that have lack of water or only polluted drinking water and systems to clean waste water from bacteria, virus, oil spill, particles, etc.Technology could also be used for medical devices.

Summary of project results

Microelectronica S.A. is a small enterprise located in Bucharest. Their main line of business is Semiconductor Research and Manufacturing. The old part of their factory building needed to be upgraded to become more environmental friendly. Research and development activities was needed to extend the company's product portfolio. Greening activities implemented: 1500m2 of the old part of the Project Promoters factory building has been refurbished. The factory is now equipped with 250 power saving LED-lights, replacing the old fluorescent lights in significant parts of the building structure. Photovoltaic solar panels are installed on the facade of the factory, resulting in the production of 125kW electrical power produced. The solar energy system is integrated into the grid system. Results are seen by 30kW lower power consumption in the factory. R&D activities implemented: The UV-LED Testing Laboratory for Microbiologic Water Disinfection has been set up. 50 tests for water cleaning devices were made. One prototype for water cleaning system has been built. The Norwegian partner, Trilobite Microsystems AS, is a small enterprise/start-up located in Kristiansand. Their main line of business is development of microfluidic solutions for separation and sorting of particles from complex fluids. Trilobite has developed a demonstrator module for cleaning of drinking water, that is intended to be put into volum production.

Summary of bilateral results

The "Greencare project" was a bilateral project between Microelectronica S.A. and Trilobite Microsystems AS. For the Norwegian partner this project released the opportunity to bring their water cleaning technology into test-production, in a factory suited for this type of industry. The partnership received travel support from the Green Industry innovation Romania Programme in order to establish a donor partnership project.
