Description

One of the needs that the project responds to is the need to promote contemporary arts and culture as a social development vector and a tool to develop cultural diversity. The project aims at creating a bridge between social and cultural needs, approaching arts as an educational and training tool, responding to needs connected to the lack of visibility for contemporary artists and their works, lack of support for producing new works, lack of mobility for the cultural sector. The main target groups: young audience, minority groups and cultural communities, members of the audience, beneficiaries of the educational programmes, young artists from the Romanian and international scenes, established artists, cultural specialists, arts and culture diverse audiences, the artistic community and mass-media.The project will be carried out by the PP and its project partners in Cluj. The objective of the project is to develop contemporary arts and culture in their diverse forms (theater, dance, visual arts) and training and education through cultural means and tools. The project results in four performing arts seasons presenting over 25 contemporary dance and theater performances, producing a new dance / movement production, organising six exhibitions in the gallery spaces, organising three multidisciplinary events of theater, dance performances, exhibitions, audience development activities, organising five visits and meetings between producers in Romania and Norway, organising ten mobility programs for artists, choreographers and dances, as well as cultural experts, a training comprising a Summer School in Cultural and Arts Management and four series of events of training in specific art fields, six series of educational programs for young audiences and on diverse cultural themes, as well as a documentation and research which aims to release publications, videos presenting artists and their works, as well as create a documentation base on contemporary arts in Romania.

Summary of project results

The core need identified by the project has been to support national artistic production while developing a meaningful connection between the artistic sector and audiences and setting up a context for new works of art as well as for audience to gain more consistent knowledge of contemporary culture. Over 60 artists from the Paintbrush Factory and 140 collaborators have been involved in the activities of the project, 11 residencies or mobility opportunities have been created for artists, curators and cultural managers, over 260 people interacted with the results of the residencies, 17 new works were created as a result of the residencies (performances or visual arts works), over 45 workshop sessions – 16 creative workshops for children (on collage, sculpture, theater, music, painting, drawing, etc.), various workshops for youngsters and professionals (percussion, contact improvisation, dance, visual arts, traditional music, cultural mediation, education and cultural management), with a participation of over 300 people, 16 presentations, debates or other events where over 550 people participated. Also, the events were accompanied by constant mediation activities that ensured an increased level of interaction between the audience and the creators: guided tours, open studios, discussions, post-performance Q&As, artist talks, etc. Overall, over 3700 people from the large community participated at all these events, while over 300 were direct beneficiaries of workshops or educational activities, which included an intense course on cultural management for young cultural workers, where over 50 professionals participated. Among the results are publications, documented materials such as photographs and videos, over 6 course materials, a collection of 20 music recordings, etc., 19 performances have been presented as part of the Production Line series, one new performance has been produced and over 20 exhibitions including various art media, with the involvement of over 150 artists and art professionals. Multidisciplinary events (performance, exhibitions) have been presented as part of the 5 editions of the Three Shifts event. The project consistently extended the beneficiary groups of cultural events towards new categories, also including new types of audiences in the activities (young people, children, etc.) Also, meaningful connections between audience and artists have been created, setting the base for a consistent dialogue and interaction between the two groups.
