Summary of project results

The ancient literature plays a fundamental role in the evolution of Romanian culture, in fact of any culture. In the context of a global society based on information, the danger of losing our cultural identity is real. New IT&C technologies provide appropriate solutions for the problem of preserving the written cultural heritage and enables users broad access to cultural heritage, without damaging valuable collections. The project aimed at protecting, enhancing and promoting cultural heritage written in old Romanian literature by increasing the number of digitized cultural representative resources and facilitating the public access. For this, the project created a corpus of 60 volumes of the vernacular texts from the Romanian Academy Library heritage. This literary corpus was integrated in Europeana cultural portal. In order to achieve the digitization of all planned 60 (sixty) volumes, 120 manuscripts heritage resources were examined and evaluated. In order to achieve the planned visibility 2 press releases were drafted and issued and 2 media events were organised. The public awareness was increased through the creation of 1 database, 1 web catalogue and 1 website. Since the need of the project was related to the lack of availability and free access to information and documents related to the medieval literature in Romania, the main achievement of the project is the publicly available database of digitised medieval documents. The large number of on-line visitors, (22.000 entries) demonstrates the interest of the public and the benefits of digitisation. The beneficiaries of the project results are represented by scientists, researchers, cultural specialists, employees in cultural organisations, students and the general public in Romania and abroad.
