Description

Project description: Akpol operates in the field of plastic waste management. The execution of the project supported by GII Programme consists of two parts: implementing more efficient and innovative technologies of segregation plastic wastes and also purchase and launch of a modern processing line which will reduce the amount of waste during a sorting process. The new technologies based on latest technological breakthroughs will allow for the selection of extra re-usable material such as PET during the waste sorting process. R&D works will be conducted with the goal to optimize the recycling process and implement solutions adapted to the nature of refuse and material industry in Poland. Partners: The project will be implemented in cooperation with TOMRA Sorting AS Norway. Project objectives: • Reduce the economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area • Increasing of competitiveness of green enterprises Outcome indicators: • Number of environmental technologies successfully applied for use in new areas - 1 • Green jobs created – 2 new green jobs • Reduction in CO2 emissions – 8 920 tons/year

Summary of project results

The project, implemented in cooperation with TOMRA Sorting AS, consisted of two parts: implementation of more efficient and innovative technologies of plastic waste segregation, and purchase and launch of a modern processing line, which has reduced the amount of waste produced during the sorting process. The implementation of new equipment leads to reduction of CO2 emission of around 8000 tons per year. The project also increases the volume of recycled materials in the company by 70%.

Summary of bilateral results

Norwegian partner was involved from the very beginning in the R&D process leading to selection of best technology process as well as in the implementation and scaling of the new sorting line for plastic waste. This was an ambitious project for relatively small company, but it occurred to be sustainable and successful thanks also to knowledge transfer provided by Norwegian partner Tomra Sorting.
