Description

The aim of the project is to improve and promote the awareness of religious objects as a response to the poor knowledge of religious practices in European societies. The goals will be attained through ethnographic and photographic documentation of the 1500 Polish Pomerania shrines and Icelandic and Norwegian churches, preparation of a promo and information film, a music composition inspired by the countries’ folklore, update of the dedicated websites, 4 exhibitions, 3 info and educational meetings devoted to the religious heritage of the partner states, 2 monographic books for the libraries in each partner state. The project actions emphasize religious multiculturality of each state and raises awareness concerning cultural events in rural areas. The project fulfills educational and research roles, and it will permit to gather detailed material on the specificity, architecture and history of religious objects that the documentation describes.

The project actions emphasized religious multiculturality of each state and raised awareness concerning cultural events in rural areas. The project fulfilled educational and research objectives, and it permitted to gather detailed material on the specificity, architecture and history of religious objects.

Summary of bilateral results

The Gerðuberg Cultural Center’s (Reykjavik, Iceland) Senior Citizens’ Social Activities Department helped with exhibition tasks and the manager of the SCSA Department was responsible for the correct execution of tasks in the project "Remnants of Prayers". The Reykjavík City Museum(Reykjavík, Iceland): The partnership between the RCM and the MNG resulted in the exchange of experience on how to maintain and promote the objects of folk and religious culture and in the future exchange of exhibitions. The National Museum of Iceland (Reykjavík, Iceland): cooperation was based on the exchange of experiences on the digitization of museum objects and promotion of the sacred and ethnographic heritage. The National Library of Norway (Oslo, Norway): The partnership between the NLN and MNG allowed the exchange of experiences especially for digitization of paper objects, photographs and their conservation. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Oslo, Norway): Exchange of experiences led to the introduction of modern methods of management and promotion of historic buildings. Partnership deepened further cooperation and exchange of good practice between institutions. Museum of Cultural History (Oslo, Norway): The cooperation resulted in the exchange of rich experience conservation, education and exhibition. The society for the Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments (Oslo, Norway): The partnership resulted in the exchange of rich experience on conservation, as well as in the mutual the promotion.
