Due to economic issues there is a limited number of independent films screened in Polish cinemas which are touching key social problems of the contemporary world such as discrimination, tolerance, balanced development. Because of the fact that cinema-going is one of the most common forms of Poles participation in culture, a decision about combining audiovisual art and horizontal issues answering to participants’ needs has been made. The project aims at dealing with socially important issues through cultural presentation. Key target groups are Krakow’s citizens, tourists, professionals from film industry, sociocultural phenomena researchers, cinephiles. Established cooperation with 3 donor state partners will enable higher quality of artistic offer and wide intercultural dialogue.

Summary of project results

The main aim of this project was to deal with socially important issues concerning cultural diversity and identity, strengthening intercultural dialogue, tolerance, contemporary world’s and man’s problems or conservation. These aims were realized not by means of standard forms, but rather by applying audiovisual art that promotes Nordic culture and cinema. The organizers, basing on the established brand name, aimed at organizing the Festival not as a typical entertaining event but rather educational one that stirs deeper discussion. PKO OFF CAMERA has been realized in Krakow since 2008 and from the very beginning it acquired a good name. The project is the continuation of actions initiated 6 years ago, however, the idea of particular events emerged as a result of long¬term cooperation with RIFF and the recent one with two partners. The partnership allowed for diversifying the program offer, increasing offer’s quality and laying a greater emphasis on intercultural dialogue. The program included diverse actions which reaffirm multi¬sidedness of the subjects discussed and its interdisciplinary character. Project, apart from the artistic offer, possesses a strong educational accent. The complexity of the offer enable increasing cultural competence of the participants. Mainly owing to the presence of prominent artists from abroad, the participants’ knowledge concerning cultural heritage of Donor Countries as well as world independent cinema were enriched. Project also affected the local community - it made Krakow’s citizens realize the great potential hidden in their city. Moving a part of the program outdoors and employing non-evident urban space stimulus for revitalization of urban space via cultural activities, and consequently, it improved life conditions of the citizens. Outdoor activities increased civic involvement so that even those disinterested in the Festival’s offer had a chance to see projections by accident. Moreover, organization of the project in Krakow was of great economic meaning to the citizens. Due to participation of guest from all over the world in the event, touristic movement increased and the demand for cultural offer of both the city and the region, which affects quality of living.

Summary of bilateral results

During the project, the role of the partners was a very important point. In 2014, RIFF and OGLFF took an active part in the programming section of Eko / Ego and Minority Report - partners were present in Krakow. KNIPSU co-organized the exhibition in MOCAK - Museum of contemporary art in Krakow. Partners experience and knowledge helped to increase the competence of the project participants. KNIPSU co-organized the exhibition in MOCAK - 2 representatives were present in Krakow. Good collaboration with partners made it possible to continue operations in the coming years. In 2015 OGLFF partner was involved in the programming of the " Age (In)appropriate". Partners delegated representatives to cooperate in the implementation of the project - representatives OGLFF and Reyjkjavik were present at the festival in Krakow. Thanks to wide, longterm (RIFF) partnership, cultural cooperation with Donor Countries has been strengthened which bear fruits in the succeeding joint projects (next editions of the Festival, etc.). The benefits of the cooperation will be promoted. The partners role in the project: a) support in realisation of the artistic program, in particular: selection of films; coorganisation of art exhibition; support in selection and gaining special guests representing Nordic culture and film, choosing experts performing roles of programmers in the project, preparing materials to be used in promotional campaign, cooperation in realisation of the campaign, mainly placing information on the website; b) delegating representatives to participate in works of the project team, constantly being in touch with the Applicant, delegating representatives to participate in project’s events. The added value of the partnership is the diversity of partners - as each of them stands for different type of activity, however, with a common denominator related to cultural activities. Undeniably, it will increase the quality of artistic program offered in the project; institutions specialising in a given realm are engaged in cooperation in individual elements of the program. It will affect the rate of postulated results and outcomes of the project. It is estimated that each year about 30 000 people will participate in the festival. Impact of the partnership will be wide. Due to partners’ participation, participants’ culture competence will be raised by familiarize with heritage and richness of Nordic cinema at world level.
