Summary of project results

The project “Active civic participation: Latvia = EU(Me)” fostered civil society’s civic awareness, provided relevant information and promoted active participation in decision-making on the national and European Union/international (not excluding local/regional) levels. The program will basically be realized in Latvia’s territory (in Riga and regions), with some specific activities abroad/with foreign colleagues. During the project the European Movement – Latvia closely cooperated with Latvian and European NGO’s and networks, volunteers, civil society, decision-makers, public sector, youth and experts in different sectors. Media relations gained a bigger attention than originally planned: the EML participated in more than 100 interviews being a frequent invitee to radio, TV and news agencies providing information and comments e.g. on participation possibilities of civil society in decision making at national and EU level. In several cases the EML proactively suggested themes or people for interviews. Activities which were mainly based on the future of the EML are the research of additional funding (and thus funding attraction) for the EML projects/activities. In this activity the EML regularly applied for projects and grants. A list of approved projects can be found on the EML webpage realized and ongoing projects. The activities Work with EML Members and volunteers (attraction of new, involvement and training and the capacity building of the employees of EML helped to increase the quality of the work of the EML and its link to the members. Practical materials for EML daily work helped to fulfil the above tasks. Project publicity was ensured according the funders guidelines.
