Description

The project aim is to develop educational programme and materials for education on climate change, as well as organizing training for different professional audiences - local government representatives and educators. The project is targeted to the professionals - for climate change reduction responsible local government representatives and educators. The project is aimed indirectly on secondary and vocational education students and students of higher education institutions - to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and attitudes about climate issues, as well as advising on practical skills on a daily basis to tackle climate change. Project activities will include research on climate change communication solutions and the level of knowledge of target audiences. Important task will be to prepare the textbook "Climate and Sustainable Development", which will be freely available on the internet.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to develop the study programme modules and materials for education on climate change, as well as organize training for different professional audiences – local government representatives and educators. Content of programmes and training materials include information on climate change, the nature and course of the climate change in Latvia and the world, climate change projections and impacts, highlighting specific examples and links to worldwide. Among other things project describes the need to adapt to climate change (including changes in lifestyle and consumption) and adaptation solutions in Latvia and the world, as well as describe greenhouse gases emissions reduction options and the diversity of technologies and activities of implementation and climate change mitigation and adaptation according to socio-economic aspects in the Latvia. The project was targeted to the professionals – for climate change reduction responsible local government representatives and educators. The project indirectly was aimed also at the secondary and vocational education students and students of higher education institutions. In order to achieve the planned results, 3 studies on climate change issues were prepared at the beginning of the project to identify the understanding of public on climate change and to prepare the book "Climate and Sustainable Development" and curriculum materials needed. Curriculum on climate change education was developed consisting of 7 modules tailored to different audiences.

Summary of bilateral results

Project partner was non-profit foundation GRID-Arendal. Experts from partner organization took part in the development of e-course "Climate Change in Latvia" and the textbook "Climate and Sustainable Development". GRID-Arendal experts prepared materials on climate change impact to international processes and gave advice on communication about environmental issues.
