Description

The project aims to popularize the history, customs and traditions of the Viking Age through the creation of mobile museums and the provision of cultural educational programmes. The two mobile living history museums set up will represent the period of VIII-XIIth centuries. One of the museums will be used in Lithuania, another one in Norway. Authentic replicas of articles will be reconstructed for children to try and educational activities will be organized in order to introduce the audiences to the history and daily life of the Viking Age in an attractive and exciting way. Representatives of the Lofotr Viking Museum will share information about the lifestyle of the viking age needed for a scientific research. They will also consult the project promoter on the production of artifacts to be used in the living history museum "Viking age" and during other steps of the project's implementation.

Summary of project results

Two living history museums with historic replicas and interactive educational programmes for scholars have been created that represent the period of VIII-XIIth centuries. Unconventional museum “The Viking Age” encourage experience-based learning - children get to touch, smell, listen, taste and examine all the exhibits, so they learn about the history and daily life of the period through their own senses. Educational exhibits were created according to a scientific study that was carried out during the project. Partners from Lofotr Viking museum shared their vast experience and provided useful consultations on running the museum. More than 500 children from regional schools of Lithuania have already tried out the mobile exposition and experiential programmes.
