Description

The aim of the project is to strengthen collaboration between the Czech Republic and Norway by establishing a network of mathematics educators and researchers from Brno University of Technology and University of Agder. The institutions will collaborate on research and innovations in mathematics and mathematics education at the university level with the particular emphasis on mathematical modeling and novel techniques of teaching and assessment in mathematics. Collaboration between BUT and UiA will be based on the exchange of knowledge and experience in education, research, management and social aspects of academia. Furthermore, this cooperation should result in submission of joint research papers to reputable international journals. All activities within this project will be supported by partners‘ experience in education, research and management. Special attention will be paid to important social aspects including promotion of wider involvement of women in education and science.

Summary of project results

Bilateral cooperation between Brno University of Technology (BUT) and University of Agder (UiA) was based on joint activities such as organizing academic events (seminars, workshops), participation in international conferences and preparation of further projects applications and publications. The cooperation resulted in organization of 4 joint events, 1 joint participation in international conference, 2 further successful project applications and 2 submitted publications with acknowledgment to Norway Grants. Moreover, all participants from the Czech Republic wrote a final participant report. Presentation from the events and participant reports are freely available on the project website. https://www.ceitec.eu/norskefondymetmas/ Other materials are attached to the report.

Summary of bilateral results

Two research visits of Josef Rebenda at University of Agder in 2013 and 2014 gave a motivation to remain in contact with colleagues in Norway. There was a mutual interest for collaboration in the fields of mathematics and mathematics education on both sides. Strong need for start of more formal cooperation on all levels of tertiary education (sharing experience, knowledge and ideas in mathematics and mathematics education) was identified. Therefore, partners from Norway and the Czech Republic decided to apply for a grant (Institutional Cooperation Project) as a convenient tool to fulfill this need.
