Programme Summary

Why is the programme needed? To contribute to a structural shift towards a greener economy, support for implementation and development of green innovative solutions are of great importance. Despite some improvements in recent years Poland is still lagging behind the EU average when it comes to eco-innovation in companies, and especially in SMEs.  There is currently a lack of available financing for private enterprises to implement such initiatives, which this programme will provide. What will the programme achieve? The programme will support green business opportunities by providing project grants for the implementation, development and/or improvement of innovative environmental technologies, products or processes. Beneficiaries are SMEs who will gain from increased energy and resource efficiency in their business and additional opportunities to exploit the growing markets for environmental goods and services. By creating new jobs and propelling a more sustainable economic growth, the programme will contribute to reducing social and economic disparities. How will it be achieved? €17.8 million will be made available through one open call planned for launch in the beginning of 2014 with a project support in the range of €170,000 to €1,500,000 supporting: •    Projects for development, implementation and/or  investment in innovative environmentally friendly technologies to manage pollution (e.g. air/water/soil pollution) and to use resources more efficiently.  •    Projects for development of innovative green products or service with a low environmental impact (less polluting, less resource-intensive)How will bilateral relations be strengthened? It is expected that small and medium-sized enterprises from Poland and entities from Norway will benefit from cooperation through sharing best practises, expertise and also exchange of technology. This should result in establishment of long-term partnerships beyond the implementation period of the projects. What are the partnership opportunities? Partnerships with Norwegian private enterprises, research institutions and clusters are encouraged under  the programme and will be awarded additional points as part of the project appraisal. Innovation Norway will, as the Programme Operator, function as a contact point for Norwegian entities wishing to participate as partners in projects. A matchmaking seminar in Poland is foreseen in connection with the open call where travel support for participation will be available. Who can apply for funding under this programme? SMEs registered in Poland are eligible as project applicants.
