EEA and Norway Grants 2009-2014: €1.79 billion in new financial contributions
In December 2009, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein agreed new financial contributions for the period 2009-2014 with the European Union. For more information about when and how this funding will be made available, see the Frequently Asked Questions.
According to the Agreed Minutes, containing the outcome of the negotiations on the EEA and Norway Grants 2009-14, €357.7 million will be made available each year to reduce social and economic disparities and promote cooperation in Europe, with Norway contributing 97% of the total amount.
The EEA Grants will be available to the 12 newest EU members as well as to Greece, Portugal and Spain, while the Norway Grants will be earmarked for the 12 newest EU members.
Activities will be supported within the following priority sectors:
- Environmental protection and management;
- climate change and renewable energy;
- carbon capture and storage (CCS);
- green industry innovation;
- research and scholarship;
- protection of cultural heritage;
- civil society;
- promotion of decent work and tripartite dialogue;
- justice and home affairs; and
- human and social development.
