Innovation Norway is donor programme partner in green industry programmes in Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia, as well as in a programme on environmental and climate change related research and development in Spain. Innovation Norway also acts as programme operator for the green industry innovation programmes in Bulgaria, Poland and Romania and the global fund for decent work and tripartite dialogue that funds projects in 12 countries.

Green Industry Innovation

Programmes within this programme area will contribute to increased competitiveness of green enterprises, including greening of existing industries, green innovation and green entrepreneurship. Aside from the lower carbon footprint, the green push also makes economic sense. Businesses across the whole economy can save money through increased energy and resource efficiency.

As a donor programme partner, Innovation Norway provides advice on the preparation and implementation of the programmes. Innovation Norway also takes part in the committee for selecting projects and provides advise on selection criteria and operation of the open calls. In Norway, Innovation Norway actively promotes the programmes and assists in facilitating networking and partnerships.

Green Industry Innovation in Estonia

While Estonia is recognised as one of the most advanced e-societies in the world, the country is a newcomer in making use of ICT solutions to green the economy. To exploit this potential, Estonia is teaming up with environmentally minded Norway, whose business sector already has a strong presence in Estonia as the fourth largest investor in the country. With funding available until 2016, Estonian and Norwegian enterprises can enter into eco-innovation partnerships to develop new business ideas and solutions within green ICT. As well as opportunities for making IT systems more eco-friendly, innovative ICT solutions can also be developed to reduce energy use in buildings or develop smart applications for transport.

Possible Norwegian project partners include small, medium and large size innovative companies, clusters and non-governmental institutions registered in Norway. Additional points are awarded to partnership projects in the selection process.

Green Industry Innovation in Latvia

The Latvian green industry programme is focused on start-ups and green business involved in production of renewable energy, production of green (energy efficient) products and materials for buildings, clean transportation, water management, waste management, eco-design, or any other improvements in products, technologies or processes in other fields contributing to energy efficiency, lower emissions or lesser consumption of resources.

Possible project partners are enterprises in Norway. Additional points are awarded to partnership projects in the selection process.

Green Industry Innovation in Lithuania

The Lithuanian green industry programme is focused on green business involved in environmental technology development, implementation or replacement of the existing technology, processing sequence and/or synthesis of these innovations in order to run the processes at a higher efficiency and minimize waste, energy and emission generation. New green product and material development or modification of the existing product and material to minimize environmental impact during or after its use.

Project partnerships are mandatory within this programme. Possible project partners are entities registered in Norway (enterprises, research organisations, private sector organisations) with regular activities related to green industry innovation.

Green Industry Innovation in Hungary

In Hungary, the programme is focused on environmentally friendly technologies, waste management and remediation, water quality management, air quality protection and noise reduction.

Possible project partners are non-profit organisations, universities, and local governments registered in Norway.

Green Industry Innovation in Slovakia

The programme in Slovakia is focused on diversification of energy sources, using waste and the production of areas utilising agricultural land, processing of invasive plants for BIO-mass production, green energy production.

Green Industry Innovation in Bulgaria

Innovation Norway is programme operator for the Green Industry Innovation program in Bulgaria.

The programme will increase green business opportunities within sectors such as construction, environmentally-friendly transport, and information and communication technologies (ICT).

Eligible applicants are entities legally established in Bulgaria in partnership with an entity legally established in Norway. Private sector enterprises are the main target group, but NGOs and public sector are eligible in some cases.

Innovation Norway is programme operator for the Green Industry Innovation program in Poland.

The programme deals with both the development and market introduction of environmental technologies and greening of existing industry. The programme will contribute to realisation of business opportunities of greening the European economy and more use of environmentally friendly technologies.
 
Eligible applicants are enterprises registered in Poland. Research institutions, NGOs, enterprises and clusters, both in Poland and Norway, will be eligible as project partners.

Green Industry Innovation in Romania

Innovation Norway is programme operator for the Green Industry Innovation program in Romania.

The programme is a business development programme aiming at improving the environment performance of enterprises. The programme support development, implementation, investment and training related to environmentally friendly technologies, innovative green products and services, reduction and re use of waste, initiatives related to energy efficiency and more use of renewable energy in business operations, as well as increased resource efficiency through system and process innovation in the business operations.

Eligible applicants Romanian private enterprises. Romanian NGO's are eligible under the small grants scheme and the fund for bilateral relations. Norwegian entities are eligible under the fund for bilateral relations only. Partnerships with Norwegian entities are encouraged.

The programme in Spain has a focus on strengthened knowledge base within the environment and climate change and increased application of environmental and renewable energy technologies related to the hydroelectric, solar, wind and marine energy sectors. Possible project partners are small, medium and large size innovative companies, technology providers registered in Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. Additional points are awarded to partnership projects in the selection process.

Global fund for decent work and tripartite dialogue

Many European countries are struggling to respond to high unemployment. The labour market is also facing many challenges, including those of discrimination and gender equality issues. The Global Fund for Decent Work and Tripartite Dialogue will put these and other workplace challenges on the agenda. The Norway Grants promote decent work and tripartite dialogue in the 12 beneficiary countries that joined the EU in 2004 and 2007.
