In Spain, €229,250 has been set aside for the bilateral national fund. Among the focus areas for the fund, are gender and environmental technology.
The funding from the bilateral national fund serves as a flexible source of financial support for initiatives from both Spanish and donor country entities that can contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations. The funds are to be used strategically and can go beyond the programmes.

What is supported?
The fund does not support projects. Rather, it supports various activities that will contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations between Spain and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Funded activities include organising and participating in seminars, workshops and conferences, training courses and other meetings as well as joint preparation in international meetings and programme launch events, etc.
Call for proposals
Most of the fund has already been committed in the work plan agreed between the donors and the national focal point in Spain. Remaining funds will be allocated through a call for proposals.
Supported activities - examples
- A conference on strengthening economic and trade relations with Spain organised by the Islandic Minister of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Spanish-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce. , Held in February 2013.
- Participation of Spanish representatives in ageothermal conference organised in Iceland in March 2013
