Grants available for Romanian NGOs

The NGO Fund in Romania has launched its second open call for project proposals, making available nearly €3 million to civil society organisations in the country.

Grants will be provided to non governmental organisations operating within the following fields:
• consolidating democracy;
• children and youth opportunities for community involvement;
• social inclusion and access to social services; and
• environment and cultural heritage.

The fund is managed by three different institutions. The Civil Society Development Foundation manages the components for consolidating democracy, children and youth opportunities for community involvement, social inclusion and access to social services, and medium and large grant schemes for environment and cultural heritage projects.

The Romanian Environmental Partnership Foundation manages small grant schemes for environmental projects, while the Carpathian Foundation manages small grant schemes for the cultural heritage component. Small grant schemes are defined as schemes of not more than €15,000 in value. For potential project promoters applying for support from the Civil Society Development Foundation the maximum grant is €75,000.

Applications can be submitted until 10 June 2009 for projects managed by the Civil Society Development Foundation. For projects managed by the Romanian Environmental Partnership Foundation and the Carpathian Foundation the deadline for submitting applications is on 24 June 2009.
In total, €5 million in project funding has now been made available from the EEA Grants to Romanian NGOs. The first call was completed in October 2008. Read more about the first call here.
